Deep Plane Facelift

Several facelift options are available in the aesthetic marketplace for those looking to reverse aging signs on their facial anatomy. A deep plane facelift is a variation that sculpts the facial features and creates the appearance of tighter skin by manipulating layers deep under the skin. If done by a highly-trained surgeon, a deep plane facelift can produce a very natural, long-lasting result by lifting the facial tissues as a whole.

What is a Deep Plane Facelift?

Deep plane facelift surgery is a complex facial surgery that aims to achieve tighter skin, sculpt facial features, and reduce elasticity in the neck and jawline. During this surgery, the SMAS (superficial musculoaponeurotic system), a layer of connective tissue underneath the facial skin, is lifted to tighten the cheekbones, jawline, and neck. Further, the cheeks are also restored to their younger, higher position. Schedule a consultation at Himmarshee Plastic Surgery to learn more about a deep plane facelift in Fort Lauderdale, FL. First Steps

What’s the first step?

The first step in getting a deep-plane facelift is scheduling a consultation with your surgeon at Himmarshee Plastic Surgery.

During your consultation, your surgeon will discuss your medical history, aesthetic goals, and expectations for the procedure. As they examine your face, they will outline the procedure, with its associated risks, benefits, and recovery timeline. They will also tailor the surgical plan to target your specific goals.

Once you both agree to move forward, your surgeon will create a customized surgical plan, which you can then take to our patient coordinator for pricing, scheduling your procedure, and receiving any pre-operative instructions.

What to Expect on the Day of Deep Plane Facelift Surgery

On the day of your deep plane facelift surgery, your surgeon and their surgical team will welcome you, get you settled in the surgical suite, and review your surgical plan in case of any outlying concerns. Once all is clear, a board-certified anesthesiologist will administer general anesthesia to make you pain-free throughout the procedure.

Once sedated, your surgeon will begin by carefully creating incisions within the hairline, the skin crease just in front of the ear and the neck. The facial and neck skin is then separated from deeper tissues to uncover the superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS). The SMAS is a tissue layer of elastin, collagen, and fat cells covering our facial muscles and nerves.

A deep plane facelift involves the area under the SMAS, which is referred to as the “deep plane.” Once the SMAS is lifted, it is anchored by stitches, and the sculpting process begins. Your surgeon will start targeting the cheeks, jowls, and sagging neck, redraping them to tighten them and reverse the aging process.

Once the desired contours are achieved, close the incisions with sutures.

On average, a deep plane facelift can take anywhere from 3-6 hours, depending on the complexity of the case and adjunctive procedures.

Deep Plane Facelift Recovery

After your deep plane facelift, your surgeon will have you monitored in the recovery room until your sedation wears off. Patients are required to have a friend or a family member drive them home.

Recovery from deep plane facelift surgery may take several weeks. However, the majority of swelling and bruising will usually subside in about weeks.
