What is Eyelid Surgery?

Eyelid Surgery in Fort Lauderdale, FL, also known as Blepharoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure aimed at rejuvenating the appearance of the eyelids. It involves the removal of excess skin, fat, and muscle from the upper and/or lower eyelids, as well as tightening the remaining tissues to achieve a more youthful and refreshed look. Eyelid Surgery can address concerns such as sagging eyelids, puffiness, under-eye bags, and fine lines, helping to restore a more vibrant and alert appearance to the eyes.

Lower Eyelid Surgery

For Lower Eyelid Surgery, your surgeon will address puffiness and sagging of the lower eyelid via one of two techniques explained below.

There are two types of techniques most commonly utilized for lower eyelid surgery. A transconjunctival approach is performed through an incision made along the inside surface of the eyelid leaving no external scars. Candidates for this technique typically do not require the removal of excess lower eyelid skin. Through this incision, the fat compartments of the lower eyelid are accessed and either removed or repositioned to better blend the junction between the cheek and lower lid.

The incision can also be placed and concealed just below the lower lash line. Again, the fat of the lower eyelid can be removed or repositioned and excess skin excised. At the conclusion of surgery, the incision is closed with fine sutures.

The surgery typically takes about one to three hours, depending on the complexity of the procedure and the specific patient. After the surgery is complete, you will be carefully monitored in a recovery area until the effects of anesthesia wear off.

Upper Eyelid Surgery

During upper Eyelid Surgery, the incision is concealed within the natural crease of the upper eyelid. The fat compartments of the upper eyelid are accessed and removed if needed, muscles tightened, and excess skin excised.

Eyelid Surgery Recovery

Recovery is an essential part of your Blepharoplasty results. After your Eyelid Surgery, it is important to follow the recommended guidelines for a smooth and successful recovery.

Immediately after the surgery, your eyes may be covered with bandages or ointment to protect the incisions and promote healing. You may experience some swelling, bruising, and mild discomfort, which can be managed with prescribed pain medications.

During the initial days of recovery, it is essential to keep your head elevated and apply cold compresses to reduce swelling.
