Introduction

Mini-Facelift

The mini-facelift is becoming a very popular cosmetic procedure. It is less invasive and has a quicker recovery than the traditional facelift. A mini facelift is a pared-down adaptation of the more thorough procedure that focuses on the lower half of the face, mainly correcting sagging skin around the neck, cheek area, and jawline. Fellowship-trained plastic and reconstructive surgeons Dr. Savannah Moon & Dr. Stephanie Scurci offer mini-facelifts in Fort Lauderdale, FL, at Himmarshee Plastic Surgery. What is a Mini-Facelift?

A mini facelift may be considered for patients who are starting to notice the early signs of aging but may not yet need the more extensive results of a full facelift. The incisions in a mini-facelift may be shorter and the dissection is more limited than in a traditional facelift, hence, the result is more subtle. During the procedure, your surgeon will usually make incisions around the ears and hide them in the hairline to access and manipulate the underlying tissues. It is important to note that a mini facelift cannot achieve the same dramatic result as a full facelift.

What Are the Benefits of a Mini-Facelift?

Who Are the Best Candidates For a Mini-Facelift?

The best candidates for a mini-facelift are those who do not wait for their skin to sag too much but are proactive in their 40s and use a mini-facelift almost as a preventive and corrective procedure. An ideal candidate for a mini-facelift in Fort Lauderdale will have some of the following characteristics:

  • Age 40s to 60s
  • Diminished jawline definition
  • Maintain realistic expectations
  • Have had a prior facelift and are looking for minor adjustments
  • Mild skin laxity on the midface, lower face, and neck
  • Need subtle results
  • No underlying medical conditions
  • Want something less-invasive
  • Have good skin quality and elasticity

First Steps

What’s the first step?

The process of getting a mini-facelift starts early, with your initial consultation at Himmarshee Plastic Surgery. Your surgeon will want to learn more about your medical history, aesthetic goals, and expectations during your consultation. This is a great time to ask any questions about the procedure as the surgeon examines your face, identifying target areas for incision and potential techniques to meet your goals. They will also share the risks, benefits, and recovery time associated with the procedure to see if it matches your expectations.

Once you both agree to move forward with a mini-facelift, your surgeon will make a surgical plan, which you can then take to our patient coordinator for pricing, scheduling, and receiving any pre-operative instructions.

What to Expect on the Day of Mini-Facelift Surgery

On the day of your mini-facelift in Fort Lauderdale at Himmarshee Plastic Surgery, your surgeon and their staff will welcome you and get you settled in our state-of-the-art surgical suite. They will review the surgical plan to make sure you are comfortable with it. Finally, based on your decision, a board-certified anesthesiologist will give you local or general anesthesia.

Once sedated, your surgeon will start by making small incisions around your ears and hairline. From there, the process of lifting and pulling up your skin can begin. They will remove any excess skin and tissue, tightening the area around your chin and jawline. Once your ideal facial anatomy is achieved, the surgeon will close the incisions with sutures.

On average and without complications, a mini-facelift can take two to four hours depending on additional procedures.

Mini-Facelift Recovery

After surgery, the staff will monitor you in the recovery room. You are encouraged to have a family member or friend drive you home.

While some swelling and bruising are expected immediately after surgery, the majority improves over the first week. Patients are encouraged to follow the post-surgery scar protocol for a smooth recovery.
